YouTube founders purchase Social Bookmarking (Delicious)

Yahoo just announced that they have been selling their Social Bookmarking (Delicious) to youtube founder, Chad Hurley and Steve Chen. The pair paid an undisclosed sum for the ailing service after its owners, Yahoo, announced their intention to flog it after absorbing a massive write down in the firm’s valuation, $30m in 2005.

Hurley and Chen

Hurley and Chen say they will “continue to provide the same great service users love and make the site even easier and more fun to save, share and discover the web's 'tastiest' content.”

Yahoo announce this news in

A transition date has been set for June 2011 whereupon the information of Delicious account holders will be transferred to Hurley and Chen’s new internet company, Avos.

Anyone who hasn’t agreed to migrate their data or backed it up by this point will lose all their bookmarks.

Anyone who has an account in please go and backup your data.  You still have 2 months to backup your bookmark and transfer to AVOS database. I hope Youtube Founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen will redevelop this social bookmarking so that it can compete with digg or stumble upon. I actually pretty excited that Hurley and Chen take over and hope they revitalize this social bookmarking business. I wish both of them good luck :D.
